amfAR's twelfth annual event honoring members of the Bay Area community who have made key contributions of time, talent, and resources to the global battle against AIDS.
BACKGROUND
One of San Francisco's preeminent benefit events, amfAR's annual Fall Gala has honored leaders and philanthropists who have made key contributions to the Bay Area community and who have helped advance the global fight against AIDS. The evening features cocktails, a silent auction, a gala dinner prepared by a celebrity chef and top-line entertainment.
With appearances by Sharon Stone, Shirley MacLaine, Robin Williams, Tracy Chapman, Taylor Dayne, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Rita Moreno, Anna Deavere Smith, Martha Wash, and Patti Austin, the event is attended by more than 400 of the Bay Area's social leaders. Leading citizens such as Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, Assemblyman Mark Leno, restaurateurs Vince Calcagno and Traci Des Jardins, philanthropists Lisa Sardegna and Susie Tompkins Buell, Tim Hanlon of Wells Fargo, Tim Wu, and Walter Shorenstein have been honored.

The French media says Sharon will not be the chair of Amfar Gala this year in Cannes. And it is for the second consecutive year without her. If it is true, I am curious what is her motivation this time?!
Actually, from the very beginning there was not an official confirmation for her participation in the gala this year. Maybe she is preferring to stay with her kids and to chair a "Homeless not Toothless" gala on 19 May in LA, an event who was announced a month ago. Obviously she doesn't seem to have the slightest intention of participating in Amfar Gala in Cannes.
