Sharon Stone Sues Producer Bob Yari Over Hemingway Biopic

The actress claims $500,000 in damages after the 'Crash' producer allegedly asked her to falsify documents to go to Cuba to shoot "Papa."

Sharon Stone has sued producer Bob Yari and his production companies alleging she was encouraged to falsify documents to shoot an Ernest Hemingway biopic in Cuba.

The complaint, filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, claims Yari, Magenta Light Productions and Sixth Floor Literary Properties attempted to lure Stone into a fraudulent scheme to avoid U.S. government licensing requirements before filming Papa in 2012.

Stone alleges she was asked to forego other projects to commit to the movie based on a false representation that Yari had the necessary documents to film in Cuba. The complaint goes on to claim that the Basic Instinct star was encouraged to "commit a fraud and a lie on her license application with the United Stares governmental agencies and to check a box indicating that she was going to Cuba for a 'cultural endeavor' " rather than to shoot the movie, which could have put her passport privileges in jeopardy.

The defendants are alleged to have agreed orally to put $500,000 in escrow for Stone but the suit claims they have refused.

Stone was to have played Mary Hemingway during the five-week shoot, according to the lawsuit, which describes Yari as "someone who lies and schemes to avoid contractual or monetary obligations." Yari has been a party to several legal cases in connection with Crash. According to the suit, after Stone said she would not travel without the legal licenses, she was told that her role would be recast and that she would need to return a wig loaned to her for the production.

Stone is seeking at least $500,000 and is represented by attorney Marty Singer.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Bob Yari Productions for comment.

La visita de la actriz estadounidense Sharon Stone a una zona contaminada por desechos petroleros en la Amazonía de Ecuador, prevista para este lunes, ha sido suspendida, informó hoy 6 de abril una fuente oficial. Asuntos de "fuerza mayor" llevaron a la suspensión de la visita de Stone, pero se coordinan las agendas para que pueda hacerlo en otra oportunidad, aunque "no hay una fecha definida", señaló a EFE una fuente de la Presidencia de la República. La actriz estadounidense tenía previsto visitar este lunes la Amazonía para unirse a la campaña La mano sucia de Chevron emprendida por el Gobierno de Ecuador contra esa gigante petrolera, acusada de causar graves daños ambientales en la selva del país suramericano. El presidente ecuatoriano, Rafael Correa, en su habitual informe semanal, dijo el sábado que Sharon Stone, de 56 años y candidata al Oscar en 1995 como mejor actriz por su actuación en "Casino", irá el lunes "al pozo Aguarico 4 a manchar sus manos" con los desechos petroleros. La campaña del Gobierno ecuatoriano comenzó en septiembre del año pasado con una visita del propio Presidente al pozo "Aguarico 4", en la provincia de Sucumbíos (noreste), donde se embadurnó la mano de restos de crudo para denunciar a la petrolera. Después, activistas, expertos ambientalistas, cantantes y actores han expresado su respaldo al proyecto. Entre ellos figuran los actores estadounidenses Mia Farrow y Danny Glover, el cantautor español Luis Eduardo Aute, la alcaldesa de Richmond (EEUU), Gayle McLaughlin, y la especialista estadounidense en temas petroleros y energéticos Antonia Juhasz. También lo han hecho la documentalista Alexandra Cousteau, nieta del investigador Jacques Cousteau, el político y excandidato presidencial francés Jean-Luc Mélenchon, la activista española Monserrat Ponsa, el sociólogo brasileño Emir Sader y su compatriota y periodista Carlos Alberto de Almeida. Chevron fue condenada por los tribunales ecuatorianos a pagar USD 9 500 millones de indemnización por los graves daños causados en la Amazonía durante el tiempo en que operó en Ecuador, entre 1964 y 1990. La multinacional, que tilda de fraudulento el juicio en el que fue condenada, ha calificado como "show mediático" a las visitas de personalidades organizadas por el Gobierno de Ecuador a la zona contaminada.

Sharon has been doing some great things for charities and won many awards for her philanthropy and at 56 may not look as stunning as she was in "Basic Instinct" over 20 years ago, but she is still attractive.

Found Dead: Sharon Stone ‘Devastated’ Over Nephew’s ‘Suspected Heroin Overdose’



The holiday season could be heartbreaking for Sharon Stone. RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that the actress is “devastated” following the sudden death of her beloved 22-year-old nephew, Colin Stone, from a suspected heroin overdose.

Colin, the son of Sharon’s brother Michael Stone, was found dead at his apartment in Hollwyood on November 10 “during a welfare check by his apartment manager,” said Ed Winter of the L.A. County Coroner’s office.

“His death was recorded as a possible overdose, pending toxicology reports,” Winter added.

Sources connected to the situation tell Radar exclusively that “the death was believed to be a heroin overdose.”

According to an insider, the 56-year-old actress was filming Life on the Line with John Travolta when she got the awful news.

“Years ago, she helped Colin’s dad – her brother, Michael – get his life back on track after serving time for selling [drugs],” the source tells Radar, referring to her brother, now 63, who served two years in jail for “possession of a kilo of cocaine.”

“Michael was able to escape a life of drugs,” the source said. “Unfortunately, his son was not so lucky.”
